Church's Day 29 August 2007

Church's day (dedication day) is „Tăierea Capului Sf. Ioan Botezătorul” - "Decapitation of Saint John the Baptist", celebrated on august 29th. Saint John the Baptist has many other religious holidays dedicated to him during the year but for our Church day has been selected the Decapitation, as a commemoration for the martiric death of the first builder of this church - Miron Barnovschi, who was decapitated by the ottomans (turkish).
The church, being build until the height of the windows by this founder was finalized by Vasile Lupu, which respected the initial plan and which was aware by the death of its predecesor. As a result, the dedication day was established to be the Decapitation of Saint John the Baptist, holiday which is being marked by fasting and abstinence, as a remember to the austere way of living Saint John had but, maybe, as a "remember" as well for its first founder.

With the help of the church-going people in our parish, a series of poor families are being helped with food and clothes during the year and especially with the ocassion of the special holidays: Christmas, Easter and Church's Day.
As a touching, after the attendance to the divine service from the evening of 28th august all the people that had participated received a material blessing, if it can be called like this, a package with food in it.
With this special event, and not only, the yard of the Church was cleaned and arranged and the inside of the Church was as well prepared in order to receive prayers for its builders, for its saint patron and as well for the receiving of many guests: many servants, priests and deacons.
